Corporate Card Issuance and Transaction Processing Platform
Custom Software Development
A financial platform for the entire corporate card lifecycle: issuance, activation, authorizations and settlement.
~2~Overview ~p~A financial institution needed a reliable backend for corporate payment cards. Card issuance was only one part of the challenge: the system also had to coordinate authorizations, transaction processing and financial settlement across connected services. The delivery scope covered core backend functionality and the service interactions required by the card lifecycle. ~2~The Challenge ~p~Corporate cards involve multiple connected operations, each with its own processing rules and reliability requirements. The platform needed to support card activation, respond to transaction authorization requests and exchange information between payment and settlement services. A failure or delay in one part of this sequence could disrupt downstream operations.
~2~Solution and Implementation ~3~Card lifecycle services ~p~The platform was organized around separate service responsibilities for issuing, activating and servicing corporate cards. This provided a clear basis for handling card-related operations as the product developed. ~3~Transaction processing ~p~The team implemented backend functionality for authorizations, payments and transfers. Service interactions were designed to pass the information required for subsequent processing steps. ~3~Clearing and settlement ~p~The delivery included processing paths for clearing and settlement, as well as routing requests between platform components. ~3~Integration-focused engineering ~p~Because the platform formed part of a broader banking environment, the team treated service interfaces and reliable exchange between components as central development tasks. ~2~Engineering Details ~3~Separating transaction stages ~p~Card servicing is not a single request–response operation. Issuance produces a card and its servicing state; activation determines whether it can be used; authorization evaluates an incoming transaction; payment processing moves that transaction through further stages; clearing and settlement complete the financial workflow. The delivery separated these responsibilities into interacting backend services instead of putting the entire lifecycle inside one application module. ~p~That division is especially important when a transaction progresses through systems with different ownership and operating schedules. Information about the card, the authorization and the subsequent settlement must reach the correct component in the right context. The project therefore focused on routing between services and on the business rules associated with each stage. The result was integrated into the bank's existing infrastructure for corporate card servicing. ~3~Engineering for a live financial product ~p~The system had to coexist with the bank's broader portfolio of services rather than operate as a standalone demo. The engineering scope extended across card operations, inter-service interactions and the financial-processing path. Reliable interfaces and clear separation of responsibilities formed the basis for further development of the business-card product. ~3~Implementation specifics ~p~The scope extended beyond card issuance and activation to transaction authorisation, payments, transfers, clearing, settlement and routing between services. ~p~The engineering focus was on keeping these business operations separated and maintaining uninterrupted service as individual components evolved.
~2~The Outcome ~p~The delivered backend became part of a live business-card service. It covers the card lifecycle from issuance and activation through authorization, payment processing, clearing, settlement and inter-service routing. Instead of a disconnected card-issuing feature, the bank gained transaction-processing components integrated into its financial infrastructure. The engineering value lay in coordinating several business-critical operations within one servicing flow.
